Beautiful Bridal Attire is the first thing that comes to our mind when we hear about Indian’s most celebrated designer Tarun Tahiliani. Well, here’s the twist, this time, TT has extended his fashion sensibilities for designing Rugs & Carpets. Yes, you heard it right my friend!
WHAT’S THIS BUZZ ALL ABOUT: Tarun Tahiliani has partnered with OBEETEE, the premium rugmaker brand to bring a spectacular collection of hand knotted carpets
WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT: This is one key accessory that can add oodles of style to your home and give it a touch of ethnicity & class, if that’s how you like it!
WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN: Tarun unveiled an exclusive collection of handmade carpets. The collection, centered on the ‘Proud to be Indian’ theme, showcases quintessential Indian designs for the first time in the country’s artistic rug heritage.
WHAT MORE CAN I KNOW: The framework of his collection is based upon three distinct design structures — The Antique Frames Collection, The Chikankari Collection, and The Abstract Art Collection. Antique frames collection is based on the borders painted in the most elaborate refinement, on the periphery of most Mughal miniature paintings. Each rug is finished with a distressed look to reflect the patina of that era.
The rugs were recently launched by the designer himself at the majestic Bikaner House.
EXPERT COMMENTS: While speaking to us, Rudra Chatterjee, Chairman, OBEETEE stated ‘’This is the home jewellery worth every penny. The designs of ‘Proud to be Indian collection’ are quite unique, these are the high end couture rug pieces that have never been woven before. While Tahiliani has designed our maiden India-inspired collection, we are bringing more such illustrious designers of the Indian design circuit like Raghavendra Rathore, Abraham & Thakore, to conceptualise this ambitious project, Proud to be Indian.’’
In Tarun’s words, “This is the first time a serious collection of rugs is coming out that is designed and conceived entirely in India by Indians. The collection is quintessentially Indian and very contemporary from the design point of view”
The limited edition designs will also be taken across the globe, beginning with US in February. A series of exclusive exhibitions and receptions will also be held in honor of each designer in New York, spanning next few months.

OBEETEE has the honour of having its carpets at Rashtrapati Bhawan as well as the Buckingham Palace. One of its rugs at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, among the biggest created by the firm, measures 452 square metres and consists of “billions of intricate knots”.
The product is priced between Rs5 lakh and Rs12 lakh and will sell from the brand’s boutique at Taj Khazana and Tahiliani’s store in Mehrauli
